West Highland Cavoodle Breeding Practices

Our puppies are hand raised. Here you can learn more about how and why we bring up our pups and look after our beautiful pets in our home.

Health Practices

Our parent dogs are the most friendly, loving, happy pets that live as members of our family. They are healthy and adored. Our Mums are DNA tested by Orivet for all testable diseases associated with their breeds.

Our puppies cannot develop any of the tested diseases. Puppies are vet checked at 6 weeks old and are also vaccinated and microchipped. We worm our puppies from 2 weeks old on a fortnightly basis. This is all recorded on their puppy passport.

Our pups (when old enough) and parent dogs are fed only the best quality food and treats.

Our adults are fed combination of Royal Canin & Advance Puppy Dry Food mixed with Premium beef mince in the morning, and a combination of chicken and beef at night. They have access to their kibble and fresh water all day.

Home Environment

We live in a beautiful area in Sydney across from the beach, Our mothers are fit and healthy as they get walked daily on the beach and enjoy park runs. This keeps them social and content to look after their puppies. Our dogs and puppies are very much loved members of our family and we have them sleep indoors with us - in fact they spend most of their time on one of the many dog beds or on a comfy lounge! Our adult dogs join us at our work offices, school pickups and love a car trip. Basically where we go, they go. Our pups are born in our home where mum and pups are cared for around the clock for the first few weeks. Once puppies are ready, they have access to a large grassed backyard area where they explore and run with the adult dogs. Our puppies enjoy safe, clean pens with lux beds and are kept and sleep indoors until they are old enough to venture out into the yard. All of our fences and pens are puppy proofed to ensure their safety.

Socialisation

Our puppies are hand raised in our home in a clean and loving environment. They are indoor pets who get very spoilt. Our two young children help care and attend to them every day which give them great socialisation from day one. They are handled every day - we pat them, stroke their feet, and tickle them to get them used to grooming. They enjoy being bathed and dried.

We have three female adult dogs so they share the parenting role fussing over them. We have different puppy areas set up to stimulate them and keep them busy.

Our two Tonkinese cats also assist in mothering and playing with our puppies. Perfect for those families who may already have a cat at home. Our home is filled with music and daily noise which helps to normalise a family environment where our pups can easily be integrated into their new homes at 8 weeks old.

Our home

Our Cavoodle puppies are raised in our family home which is immaculately cleaned and maintained. The climate controlled with heating and air-conditioning. We have security cameras so we have visuals on our puppies 24/7. We have a lovely backyard and entertaining area where families can interact with their puppies during pick-up and see on FaceTime meetings as they grow. Our aim was to be a boutique breeder and produce puppies that fit into similar families and homes like ours.

Whelping Area

Mum births and has her puppies inside with us and we are always monitoring and checking in. The first week is non stop care and attention. We also have cameras installed if we need to pop out of the house. For the first month of their life our puppies are handled multiple times a day. There are heat lamps if it is cold and air con for cooling.

We pay close attention to Mum making sure she has all the special care and nutrition needed at this time of whelping. Mum needs regular breaks although she doesn’t like to leave them and has free access to and indoor room and outside backyard via our multiple dog doors.

Outdoor Room and Backyard

Our puppy areas are very secure with fencing and screens. Our yard is puppy friendly to ensure they are kept safe and sound at all times, especially while they are so little. We have four areas where mum and puppies can roam and play once they reach 3-4 weeks old.  Through the day in good weather they are happy in their grassed outdoor playground. Mum also has some seperate areas for some time away for her litter when she needs it.

Each puppy having access via a doggy door to an outdoor area meaning that our puppies learn to use a doggy door at a very young age. By the time they leave of their new homes they almost all are consistently toileting outside on our artificial turf and grassed areas which makes toilet training easier to maintain when you take them home.

We have large trees and bushes where puppies can roam and discover the outdoors. Basket of toys keep them busy and grassed areas perfect for toilet training. By allowing this free access to the grass areas it fast tracks the toilet training as we aim by the age of 6 weeks that our puppies are almost always toileting outside.

Our puppies sleep indoors every night.
